Land: The Australian Velvet Gecko is mainly restricted to Australia , New Zealand and New Caledonia.

Adult Size: The different species of Velvet Geckos can range between 2 to 6 inches in length.

Velvet Gecko Appearance: Most Velvet Geckos are usually greenish brown with spots. And others are brownish red with white strips and spots.

Diet: Velvet Geckos can be fed insects such as crickets, locusts, spiders and waxworms. Velvet Geckos have also been known to eat non-citrus fruits such as bananas.

Housing in Captivity: The enclosure should be around 24 inches long with a daytime temp of between 83-88 degrees Fahrenheit and about 73 degrees at night. There isn't a direct need for UV lighting because the Velvet Gecko is nocturnal. Humidity needs to be maintained daily by spraying the enclosure with water.

Drink: Velvet Geckos require a shallow drinking bowl for drinking.

Sleeping Habits: Velvet Geckos are nocturnal creatures.

Temperament: Velvet Geckos are relatively tame and make very nice pets. Males should not be housed together as they tend to fight. They do not like excessive handling as they are very shy in nature and tend to hide often.

Velvet Gecko Breeding: There are only about two species of velvet geckos that are bred in captivity: Northern Velvet Gecko and the Ocellated Velvet Gecko
