Native to: Native to Australia, the blue-tongued skink has also been found in Indonesia, particularly the island of New Guinea.

Adult Size: The average length of the adult blue-tongued skink is up to 2 feet in length.

Appearance: Blue-tongued Skinks have very tiny legs, short tails which can break off and grow back, and long bright blue tongues, generally used for hissing and scaring off predators.

Diet: The blue-tongued Skink is omnivorous meaning that they ear meat as well as plants. They are mostly known for eating small animals like insects, worms, and snails. Fruits and vegetables should also be given in a slightly higher quantity including strawberries, bananas and melons.

Ease of care: Easily domesticated, the blue-tongued Skink makes a great pet and generally do not mind being handled often.

Habitat: These lizards require larger enclosures. They should be kept in a tank with a minimum of 40 to 55 gallons. The enclosure should be kept relatively humid on one side and slightly drier on the other. Also the heat should range from around 75 degrees to around 85 degrees with a basking zone of about 95 degrees.

Drink: There should be a bowl of water available at all times. The water should be checked and refreshed often. And should also be large enough for them to climb in and out easily as well as submerge their entire body.

Temperament: They are very docile and can be carefully handled by small children. Although they develop sharp claws they very rarely scratch, using their claws mainly for digging.

Breeding: Breeding occurs once a year. About 15 are born in a litter, after about 100 days after conception.
